Michael Moore was raised in Davison, Michigan. This small town is where he began getting ideas that would question societal issues and decisions. Moore started writing for a local newspaper, The Flint Voice, after he dropped out of the University of Michigan-Flint at the mere age of 22. His career sky-rocketed when he left The Flint Voice and began working in politics for Ralph Nader. Michael Moore took his career into the TV and film industry, producing many television shows and movies that questioned the United States of America, its leaders and their choices.
Michael Moore's television shows were full of satire. His first television show was called "TV Nation," which aired in June 1994 on NBC. On this hit television show, Michael Moore used investigative reporting techniques to report on the lack of information in the American public on important issues. "TV Nation" was nominated at the Emmy Awards in 1995 for Outstanding Informational Series, and won. However, the show was subsequently canceled and later picked up by Fox and then the Bravo Network.
In addition to "TV Nation," another Michael Moore classic was the hit television show "The Awful Truth." "The Awful Truth" was a satirical show, and Michael Moore insisted on throwing the spotlight onto governmental leaders with questions that seemed difficult to answer. Two seasons of this show were aired; the first was filmed in Chicago while the second was filmed in New York City.
